Snapshot Saturday: How are you Lichen the summer so far?

I want to first apologize for not publishing this week, sometimes you need a few days to recharge and that’s ok! But here we go again, my friends! This photo was taken on Thunderbird Mountain in December 2014, and it shows lichen growing on desert rocks. From my research, lichens growing on rocks have a very interesting purpose. Over time (like a very long time) they actually chip away at the rock and provide the soil underneath it with minerals and nutrients from whatever rocks they are growing on. They will also soak up water very rapidly, especially in the desert. Lichen is essentially fungus and algae hanging out all the time and doing their thing for each other, otherwise known as a symbiotic relationship. Have a great weekend, and stay eco-friendly and fabulous!
