Green your life Monday: keeping things squeaky clean

Between my asthma, allergies, and sensitive skin (promise I’m not high maintenance) I am not the biggest proponent of chemicals. Whether it’s chemicals in lotions, soaps, household cleaners, artificial sweeteners, etc. I feel that there are better alternatives that are a little more natural and not so harsh on our environment. So today we are exploring some greener ways to clean your living space:

  1.  Glass and mirrors. Try about 4 tablespoons of lemon juice mixed with half a gallon of water, and dry with an old cotton t-shirt. This alternative offers a streak-free shine and a summer fresh scent!
  2. Polishing your wood surfaces only needs 2 parts olive oil to 1 part lemon juice to make your wood shine and smell awesome.
  3. Shower head buildup? Mix water and vinegar in a plastic baggie and secure it to the shower head, and watch the calcium buildup fall right off.
  4. Essentially vinegar mixed with water is a good cleaning solution for just about any surface.
  5. Baking soda is also good for cleaning toilet and bath tub surfaces.

Another perk of using more eco-friendly cleaners is that they are child-safe. However, the look of a kid getting lemon, vinegar, or baking soda on their tongue is priceless, and you won’t have to rush them to the emergency room.

Stay clean and green, my friends!
